Synopsis

To complicate things, Carolyn and Jack have an on again-off again relationship. Then there is Evan Jones, a handsome architect— but he's also a suspect.

Can Carolyn manage to solve the case as more and more murders pile up? Will her relationship with Jack hinder their investigations? And, what about Evan Jones? He seems like the perfect man, but could he actually be the murderer?

One thing is for sure: someone close to both Carolyn and Jack has A Taste For Killing.

Once I made it to the trailer, I heard an argument going on inside.
"Look, I don't care who you are. The plans are publically filed. Go get them yourself!" yelled someone.
Then I heard a voice I knew. Calm, cool, subversive. "Is there any reason you're being so difficult? A man did die on your watch."
An encounter I hadn’t planned on. Well, at least not until later tonight. I knocked loudly on the door and with my sweetest voice said, "Hello, boys. Am I interrupting something?"

My Thoughts

In A Taste For Killing, Carolyn investigated the death of an architect hired by the parents of the victim. At the same time, the man's fianceé also hired a detective who turned out to be Carolyn's ex boyfriend, Jack. After a fateful night where things fell apart between both of them, Carolyn decided to focus solely on her job. Or so she thinks. Enter Evan, the victim's coworker and the prime suspect, who put everything upside down.

I thought this book would be more fun but it wasn't. While, it's a light and entertaining story, it also overdramatic. I did like it, especially appreciating how everything was justified and the construction of the plot base on the murder, which ending was satisfyin; but it also felt like a telenovela, which took off several points. By other hand, the mystery was well done. The killer wasn't revealed until the end and it was a constant guessing, suspecting everybody and their motive.

As for the characters, I liked Carolyn the best; she was credible on her role as a dectective and I liked her mindset regarding her love life about finding what truly make her happy. But I have mixed feelings regarding the man. I suspected Evan the whole time, and it's the only thing I can tell you about him because when you read the story, you'll see; as for Jack, I'm so anngry with him for his actions toward Corolyn, even when I think he loved her and I'm always in favor of love.

Overall, I think that this short story was solid enough even if a bit dramatic for my taste. Yet, I want to know more about these characters because one thing is for sure, I'm asking more of A Taste For Killing.
